About the Class
In this beginner class we will make a perfectly fitted cushion cover for your sofa or your bed. We will learn how to insert a regular zip, a skill that will come in handy for multitude of future projects.

Who is it for?
All beginners who have some minimal sewing experience (e.g. hand sewing/mending). If you are an absolute beginner you can join this class, but we would recommend you to complete our Introduction to Sewing: You and Your Sewing Machine class first. All sewist who are keen to learn about inserting a regular zip, an essential skill for any sewist that will give you confidence to attempt more complex makes like personal make-up bag, zipped pencil cases or basic skirts using zip as fastening.
What will you learn?
- Go over multiple cushion designs
- Sew one zipped cushion 50x50cm
- Learn the difference between regular zip and an invisible zip
- Learn how to insert a regular zip using a zipper foot on the machine
- Learn how to finish seams using your machine or an overlocker
Insert a regular zip using a zipper foot - zip is the most used fastening for everyday items from purses to jeans. Learning how to insert a zip will enable you to more challenging projects and create useful and beautiful makes for you and your loved ones. Once you know how to handle a zip, a zipper foot will become your second most used foot on your machine.
Sewing machines and all accessories are provided in class.
In order to complete this project you will need 1 m (length) x 1.2m (minimum width) of cotton material, one regular zip matching in colour to your chosen material, matching thread (polyester). Project fabric packs containing all necessary materials will be available to purchase during the class for €5 to €10 .
